1.12.12 ¦ Bancroft CEO recognized by business magazine

Bancroft President and CEO Toni Pergolin was recently honored as one of South Jersey's leading executives by an area business magazine. South Jersey Biz named Ms. Pergolin to its "Executives of the Year" for 2011, along with 20 other prominent leaders. She was one of 21 executives featured, from Campbell Soup's CEO to the head of NFL Films.

The honorees were chosen by the magazine's readers, who were asked to nominate "innovative business leaders who have spearheaded change and growth in their industry." Notes South Jersey Biz: "These sharp minds have stepped up to the plate when the pressure was on."

12.07.11 ¦ Butterfly Ball draws record attendance and donations

Bancroft's annual Butterfly Ball was a big success last month, breaking records for both fundraising and attendance.

Featuring Phillies TV play-by-play announcer Tom McCarthy as volunteer dinner chair and emcee, the event raised $340,000 and hosted 310 guests -- more than any of Bancroft's past 18 galas.

"People were really moved by Megan Smetona's story," noted Ball chairperson Barbara Berkman, referring to a Bancroft School graduate who was highlighted at the ball. Ms. Smetona, who graduated in 2008, now lives and works successfully in the community. She was featured in a short video at the gala, and spoke briefly to the crowd.

11.18.11 ¦ Veterans with brain injuries honored; Story covered on KYW radio, CBS Philly website

Local officials honored veterans served by Bancroft Brain Injury Services last week, during a Veterans Day Observance at our Cherry Hill, N.J., day-treatment site.

The officials presented special medals from the Camden County (N.J.) Freeholders to six veterans in Bancroft's brain-injury program and four staff members who are veterans.

The medals, which honor the veterans' service, were presented by Jack Conners, director of Camden County Veterans Affairs, retired Lt. Col. Alfred Bancroft (by coincidence!), also of the Camden County VA., and Freeholder Jeffrey Nash.

11.11.11 ¦ Bancroft salutes its military veterans

On Veterans Day, we pause to honor those who have defended our country, making sacrifices and putting themselves at risk for our security and freedom.

At Bancroft, our "family" includes members of the Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Navy and Marines, including many who served in wars and other conflicts. Thank you to all the veterans who gave of themselves to help so many others. We are grateful for your service and proud to know you.

10.13.11 ¦ Bancroft Day a crowd-pleaser

The rescheduled Bancroft Day celebration on Saturday was well worth the wait! The new date provided abundant sunshine, and enabled us to share the day with Build Jake's Place - a group that developed an accessible playground which opened that very morning at the site.

The day started with the Jake's Place grand opening ceremony, which included a short parade of children led to the new playground by Mummers. The beautiful new playground (at Challenge Grove Park in Cherry Hill, N.J.) was a big attraction for the hundreds of children in attendance - both Bancroft students and others from the community.

Bancroft Day followed, with its "street fair" of music, dancing, games, craft activities, vendors, refreshments and more.

10.13.11 ¦ Adults with brain injuries get job experience at local hospital

BIS Lady of Lourdes Volunteer Pic

Through Bancroft, people with brain injuries are volunteering at a local hospital – and gaining valuable work skills.

About ten people in Bancroft's Day Treatment Services (DTS) are helping in a variety of ways at Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center in Camden, N.J.

Day by day, they build skills and confidence as they stick to a schedule, follow procedures and interact face-to-face. Long-term benefits could be even greater.

"When they apply for a job, they can use the hospital as a reference," says Mark Alessandrini, a program director at DTS in Cherry Hill. "That's a great thing to have on a resume."

10.14.11 ¦ Brain-injury services for veterans highlighted in news story

The Newark (N.J.) Star Ledger reported on Bancroft's services for veterans with brain injuries, through a new pilot program by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. To view the online version, please click here.

10.11.11 ¦ It's National Disabilities Employment Awareness Month!

Many Bancroft students and adults have jobs – but too many people with disabilities nationwide remain unemployed.

With October designated as National Disabilities Employment Awareness Month, we're helping to spread the word -- and showing how employing people with disabilities is a win-win situation for all involved.

10.05.11 ¦ Bancroft Day rescheduled for Oct. 15

Bancroft Day

Bancroft Day, the organization's annual festival, has been rescheduled for Saturday Oct. 15. The event had been postponed several weeks ago due to rain.

The new date features an exciting bonus: the grand opening of Jake’s Place, a fully accessible playground, at the Bancroft Day site.

The festivities – at Challenge Grove Park in Cherry Hill, N.J. – start at 11 a.m. with the opening celebration for Jake’s Place, followed by the Bancroft Day “Street Fair” from noon to 4 p.m.

Bancroft Day, which is free and open to the public, will include games and prizes, music and dancing, arts and crafts, vendors and more. Lunch is available for $6, and other refreshments will be sold.
