Employees with disabilities are generally reliable, enthusiastic and highly motivated. They value the opportunity to work and be contributing members of society. Employees with disabilities also bring diversity to the workplace and demonstrate a company's commitment to community values. It is a win-win situation that makes good business sense.

At Bancroft, a wide range of vocational training and supported employment opportunities are available for those served based on each person's interest, capabilities and goals. Working in partnership with over 70 area businesses, many of those served by Bancroft are finding and maintaining meaningful community-based employment.

The Continuum
Structured Day Programs>Transitional Supported Employment Programs>Supported Employment Services

Structured Day Programs: These programs are designed to facilitate greater independence through functional, meaningful and therapeutic learning experiences and activities, with a focus on community involvement. Many individuals who are not able to secure paid employment positions may serve as volunteers within their communities.

Transitional Supported Employment Programs: These programs serve those who may not require the supports of a day program but who are not yet able to achieve the level of independence needed to succeed in a community-based supported employment position. Small groups of employees work in a variety of community-based business settings with continuous support from a job coach. Transitional supported employment programs are a viable alternative to supported employment for those who may need additional support and supervision by staff who are specially trained to manage any possible aberrant behaviors while providing individualized job training.

Supported Employment Services: These programs serve those interested in competitive, community-based employment situations. Employment specialists work with both the employee and employer. Job training and support is provided based on the needs of the employee (adjusting to changes over time). Sensitivity training and consultation is provided to the employer and co-workers with emphasis placed on the development of natural supports.

Bancroft partners with more than 70 businesses and organizations to provide employment for individuals with disabilities. Click here for a list.

A Business Advisory Committee, established at Bancroft in 1993, is comprised of over 20 members, many of whom are community business leaders. The Committee meets monthly to consult with and advise Bancroft staff members and persons seeking employment opportunities.

Outcomes
98% of individuals served within Bancroft's employment programs are actively employed.

55% of individuals who are competitively employed have maintained their employment with their present employer for 12 months or more.

92% of individuals who are employed within Bancroft's transitional employment programs have maintained their employment for six months or more.

The average hourly wage for people served within transitional employment programs is $5.31 per hour, and the average number of hours worked per week is 17.

The vast majority of the people we serve who are employed are in jobs of their choice, and all express personal satisfaction with their jobs.

“Bancroft NeuroHealth's employment services staff does an excellent job of customizing the employment process for each person served. This is evidenced in many outcomes. One individual in particular, who had a love for the Philadelphia Flyers professional hockey team, saw his dream realized because of the creativity and hard work of Bancroft NeuroHealth's employment services staff members. They worked with the hockey arena where the Philadelphia Flyers practice to create a job for this individual.”
