York Lecture Series helps promote barrier-breaking, innovation

Bancroft kicked off the Clarence York Lecture Series in May with a national leader in the field, a well-known author, and many thought-provoking discussions. The event, titled “Building Communities for All Abilities,” focused on overcoming barriers and encouraging more positive community involvement by people with disabilities. A second lecture, scheduled for Oct. 1 near Haddonfield, will center on employment and other fulfilling activities. “The York Lecture Series is designed to inspire new innovations in Bancroft programs and our field,” says Caroline Eggerding, MD, Bancroft’s vice president of clinical services.

The October lecture, “Opening Doors to Meaningful Careers,” will tie in with National Disabilities Employment Awareness Month. The keynote speaker: Leslie Wilson, MS, a nationally recognized expert in this area. Her Florida-based firm, Wilson Resources, Inc., provides monitoring, research and training for state governments and major corporations on employment and inclusion of people with disabilities. Employers also will provide valuable insights. For instance, members of Bancroft’s Business Advisory Committee — a group of business leaders — will speak. And many area companies will be on hand, as Bancroft recognizes them for supporting employment of people with disabilities.

“This promises to be another exciting lecture, full of inspiring success stories and practical advice,” says Eggerding.

The event, scheduled for 5:30 to 8:30 pm at Tavistock Country Club, will include dinner. For more information, contact Kathy Ross at (856) 429-5637, ext. 336, or e-mail kross@bnh.org.
