Free Workshop: Teaching Children with Asperger Syndrome in a
Public School Setting

This workshop will focus on the unique needs, challenges and rewards of teaching children with Asperger syndrome in an integrated or self-contained classroom. It will explore strategies to promote social skills, effective communication techniques, reduction of sensory stimulation, increasing desired behaviors and decreasing inappropriate behaviors, development of a classroom management plan, managing the learning environment and levels of reinforcement.

Heads-Up Brain Injury Webinar Series: TBI in the Military

The comprehensive look at traumatic brain injury in the military will teach you:
- The types, frequency and effects of TBIs sustained in the military, particularly in Iraq and Afghanistan
- The challenges of identifying TBI in the military population, and the military's response in diagnosing and treating TBI

- The resources available for those who have sustained a TBI in the military and their families

Free Workshop: Bullying from a Legal and Educational Perspective
6:30-8:30 p.m.
Farrington Building, Haddonfield Campus
This workshop will focus on how bullying affects many students with disabilities, both as victims and as perpetrators. The presenter will define bullying and discuss the school's responsibilities to intercede when bullying occurs. The workshop will provide concrete advocacy strategies to address bullying in both a proactive and reactive manner. We will also explore ways to proceed when efforts to address bullying are not successful.

Free Workshop: Effective Goal Writing for IEP Success

This workshop will focus on developing IEP goals that are individualized, specific, measureable, achievable, relevant and time-limited. Discussion and exercises will touch on pre-assessment, data collection, and how to develop objectives and strategies that lead to step-by step-achievement of created goals.

Free Workshop: Medical Developments in the Biology of Autism

Farrington Building, Haddonfield Campus
Our understanding of autism and the medications used to treat autism are tightly linked. We currently view autism as a spectrum disorder; individuals diagnosed with autism share defining characteristics but remain highly individual. Similarly, medications used in the treatment of autism do not cure autism per se, but help decrease problematic symptoms and behaviors seen in people with autism. This workshop will discuss the commonly used medications that some persons with autism use. The indications, risk and benefits of these medications will be discussed.
