Welcome back to school everyone! Wishing you a year filled with learning and fun.
Let's thank our Direct Support Professionals
from the Bancroft Family Council

National Direct Support Professionals Recognition Week starts Sunday - and we're asking all Bancroft families to help us celebrate.

We all know how much of a difference these very special people make in our loved ones' lives, so please take a moment next week to thank them. Here are a few suggestions
for how you can show your appreciation:
  • Write a CIT card (an official note of recognition based on Bancroft's core values of Compassion, Independence and Teamwork) to a particular staffer or group of employees. Click here for the form.
  • Send a fruit basket, bring in baked goods or order pizza for a group.
  • Just say THANK YOU!

National Direct Support Professionals Recognition Week began last year, thanks to a resolution by the U.S. Senate. Here's an excerpt:

"This resolution will draw positive attention to the millions of professionals across the country who help support individuals living with disabilities. They often work long hours with little pay, but their contributions are critical. Today we recognize their dedication and vital role in enhancing the lives of individuals with disabilities of all ages."

We are very pleased these very deserving people are being recognized nationally for all they do. And we are confident that your gestures of appreciation will be very meaningful to the staff.

Know a stellar staff member who deserves extra-special recognition? The annual nominating period for Maggie Awards will conclude at the end of this month. Please consider nominating a special staff member for Bancroft's most prestigious employee award. Click here for the nomination form.

Reminder: Webinar on estate and financial planning

Planning for life's end

Family member Janis Bell and her colleagues
at the Trenton Diocese's Consolation Ministry
and Office of Worship are conducting two workshops on end-of-life decision-making, titled "Planning the Last Day of This Life - A Gift to Our Families."

The first workshop will take place on Oct. 7 at St. Dominic Parish in Brick, NJ. The second one will be held on Oct. 14 at Our Lady of Sorrows-St. Anthony Parish in Hamilton, NJ. For further information or to register, please call the Diocese of Trenton Office of Family Life at 609-406-7400 x5573 or email mrosid@dioceseoftrenton.org by September 25th.
An Invitation from the Inclusive Ministry Committee

In an effort to respond to one aspect of a family survey concerning spiritual opportunities for the people we serve, an Inclusive Ministry Committee was formed in 2002. Our goal has been to offer spiritual experiences, and to respond to the spiritual/religious requests from people served and their families. This has been an exciting and rewarding effort. The committee meets monthly in the Lullworth Building on the Haddonfield Campus. We look forward to welcoming new members who could bring new ideas and enthusiasm for this ministry. If you are interested and would like to learn more contact Sister Krista Mote at (856) 429-5637, ext. 148 or e-mail kmote@bnh.org
NJ Dental Database

We are pleased to share the website link for an online database of New Jersey dentists who serve persons with developmental disabilities. The goal of this website is to help individuals with developmental disabilities and their families identify appropriate dental care in their communities. The dental database can be accessed at http://rs6.net/tn.jsp?t=ypuz65cab.0.0.7n9pimcab.0&ts=S0413&p=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.disabilityhealth.org%2Fdental&id=preview

DDD Trainings for Families

The Family Support Center of New Jersey (FSCNJ) Training Department offers interactive sessions to assist families of children with developmental disabilities. The sessions target different age ranges in order to address unique needs.

FSCNJ currently conducts the following three trainings in association with the New Jersey Division of Developmental Disabilities:

Life Line for the Journey is for families of children from infancy through age 14. At this stage, families are typically wondering and worrying about what the future holds for their child with a developmental disability. To learn more or to register for a session, click here

Pathways to Adult Life is dedicated to the needs of youth between the ages of 14 and 19. This session is produced through collaboration between DDD, the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation Services (DVRS), the Department of Education (DOE), the Division of Disability Services (DDS), and the Boggs Center. To learn more or to register for a session, click here.

Preparation for Life After 21 is a two-part series designed to specifically address the concerns of students with developmental disabilities ages 19 through 21 and their families as they quickly approach the end of their education entitlement. To learn more or to register for a session, click here

FSCNJ has been conducting information sessions for New Jersey's families since May 2004.
