Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities' (CARF) surveyors give glowing report

A CARF Survey Team praised Bancroft extensively during its survey last week. The team will now submit its recommendation for our accreditation renewal to CARF, which will notify us of our accreditation status in about 6 to 8 weeks.

In the meantime, we wanted to share some of the surveyors' comments during their exit meeting with us last Friday. They cited many strengths, and made very few recommendations - which is a great credit to every Bancroft staffer involved.

In fact, there were no recommendations related to many of our programs and services, business practices and other corporate services. In other words, we have demonstrated substantial conformance with CARF standards. Here are some of the survey team's remarks:

  • Mission and values of the organization are to be commended for being person-centered
  • Persons served by the organization are consistently treated with dignity and respect
  • High degree of satisfaction and confidence in leadership
  • Well-written technology plan
  • Performance Improvement approach, documentation and participation were very good
  • Safeguarding and respecting rights of persons served throughout programs were strong
  • Commitment, professionalism and longevity of many staff is very impressive
  • Excellent rapport between persons served and staff was witnessed consistently
  • Level of Support Determination Scale and the Integrity Checklist, in particular, are examples of best practice
  • Efforts to involve individuals in community-based activities is outstanding
  • Behavior management plans are thorough and well written
  • Employment programs are well-organized with ongoing community outreach and involvement
  • Excellent employment staff and relationships with business community very good
  • Efforts to support and encourage self-advocacy are exemplary
  • On-site college courses to encourage continuing education among staff is great
  • The many different types of therapeutic activities is very impressive

CARF made several recommendations for improvement that include:
  • Develop disclosure statements for those served and their families about services, timeframes, expectations, and outcomes, which should be provided at time of admission and periodically during participation in the program.
  • Develop and communicate criteria for transition to different services along the continuum.
  • Identify clear, focused clinical outcome measures that can be aggregated across all programs and used to market our services.
  • Share vocational plans for those served with their employers.

At the conclusion of the meeting, Bancroft President Toni Pergolin thanked the CARF survey team for its collegial and supportive approach to the survey process. She also expressed her sincere appreciation to every Bancroft staff member involved in the areas being surveyed. She stated that she had complete confidence in our programs going into the survey, and expressed tremendous pride for the work being done throughout the organization.

We're doing great work at Bancroft - spread the word!
