7.09 | Bancroft Volunteers Honored for Helping Individuals Move Into Community Settings

Haddonfield, NJ - July 2009 - Three volunteers allied with Bancroft NeuroHealth are recipients of a New Jersey statewide award honoring their continuing efforts to help individuals with disabilities transition from developmental centers into community life.

Todd Emmons of Voorhees, Russell Fried of Laurel Springs and Bernard King of Voorhees, are members of Bancroft's self-advocacy group, and are also allied with New Jersey's 'Seeking Ways Out Together' (SWOT) team that assists individuals as they move out of developmental centers and into community settings.

The SWOT team was honored with the Distinguished Systems Change Award presented by The New Jersey Council on Developmental Disabilities.

"Sometimes, individual New Jerseyans rise above the everyday to do exceptional work for all of us," said Dr. Alison Lozano, executive director of the Council. "We believe highlighting that good work will promote more of it and help our state's varied communities thrive."

On behalf of Bancroft, president Toni Pergolin congratulated the honorees for their commitment and service as volunteers. "Through their work, these individuals have made a significant impact on their communities, and have gone well beyond the call of duty in the name of giving back," she said.

Founded in 1883, Bancroft NeuroHealth annually serves more than 1,300 children and adults with developmental disabilities, brain injuries and other neurological impairments. Based in Haddonfield, NJ, Bancroft has sites in Camden, Burlington, Gloucester, Ocean, Salem and Middlesex counties in New Jersey, and in Delaware. Programs include education, rehabilitation, vocational, residential, evaluation and treatment services.
